This year on UKScrappers, Shimelle is running monthly classes called '& now for something completely different'. Here is my attempt at the January class, which can be viewed here. This layout combines some very old stash - the patterned papers and the cardstock - with some of my newer things - the alphabets, twine and in particular my new stamps.

On the tractors

Here is a LO i made at last months crop. It useds some ledger kraft cardstock as the background and Echo Park Little Boy papers and stickers, one of my fav collections at the moment (though my supplies are now getting low!). The 'tractors' chipboard letters are from Provocraft and i have had them in my stash for years and years (i know this as they were purchased when i lived in The Netherlands). I am pretty pleased with the little banner strips i handcut, some from the little label on the 'extra' part of the papers that you normally cut off and through in the bin (the part that has the names on). The photo was taken in the spring of last year or my two boys at a local farm park.

First LO of 2012

Here is my first page of 2012, made last night. Its quite a simple design, using some very pretty patterned paper, which actually features the colour pink...but i thought it was so pretty i had to use it. I tried to compensate for the pinkness by using a blue patterned paper as well. I used a flower from my UKS teams swap made by Yolanda, but i added the frayed green outer layer to make the flower larger and thus more prominent.

Last LO of 2011

This is the last LO i have made in 2011. I got the inspiration for the page from my dutch scrapbooking magazine. I used a sheet of Kraft card for the background, and another piece to mount the photos and patterned papers, which creates a subtle effect. I hand sewed around the patterned paper blocks and free hand cut petals to create a flower (which i wenta round with a white pen to create faux stitching). The labels were created with my new MME stamp.

Wonder of Christmas

I wanted to make a Christmas themed layout to go on my stand on our fireplace so it would match in with the rest of the decorations, so i thought it would be a good opportunity to use one of last years photo of my little one with some inflatable Christmas toys.

I got the inspiration of using lots of layers from the dutch scrapbooking magazine that Sinterklaas kindly gave me earlier this month. It was also a good chance to use up more of my BG Blitzen papers, which i have had about 6 years now and just seem to keep on going and going...maybe next year i can now treat myself to some different christmassy stash.

I heavily distressed the edges of each layer, added some fibres and trim twisted around each other, then layered up a fabric and paper tag for journalling. I put some Christmas word stickers along the edge of the photo as i felt the straight line was a little too harsh in comparison to all the distressed edges. Then added some lace, some holly i cut on my craftrobo embellished with gems and alpha stickers for the title.

Bounce, Bounce, Bounce

This is another layout using one of Shimelle's sketches. I was very pleased to have finally used the Zebra Print patterned paper that i have had in my stash for many years. It seemed like if this photo wasnt made for the paper, it would never get used! I then selected the green paper (Scenic Route) from my scraps folder as it matched the tshirt in the photo. I then turned to the same paper range and came across the blue patterned paper...and this the blue/green/black and white colour scheme was created. I then remembered some felt diecuts i had in my stash for several years, so layered some of those up and added a gem (two of which i coloured with my sharpies). I punched some circles from arrow papers to go with the 'bouncing' theme. If i ink edges, i usually use a dark brown, but as this LO already black in it, i didnt think brown would work, so i used black ink for all the edges and am really pleased how well it worked.

Meeting Peppa Pig

This LO was originally intended to follow Shimelle's latest sketch. But after i had selected the bordered paper i just thought it worked so well as it was i didnt want to cut it up and rearrange it. The colour scheme or pink and blue seemed to fit really well, and having a theme of 'pigs' was a great reason to get to use pink on a LO.....a very rare thing for me to do having two little boys!

I also got to use some of the flowers, sent to me by Cath as part of our UKS team flower swap...they are amazing! In fact i almost feel like i cant take credit for this LO as the flowers are so central to the page working. I also used some prima fabric paper for the very first time...you probably cant see it from the photo, but i had great fun fraying the edges of it. And i also used some Tim Holtz tickets...my friend Yolanda had sent me a few, and i loved them so much when i came across them at the local garden centre craft section i decided i needed more!!

The photos are of my youngest son when we visited Peppa Pig World on holiday in the summer.

Panda Party

Here's one of the 3 layouts i managed to make at my crop yesterday. I started with the idea that the LO would be mostly black and white with hints of the orangy red as that would match the theme of pandas and the photo well. I recently bought a pack of doilys that were reduced in the supermarket and as they were white i thought i could try one of those. With that in mind i then selected some papers. However i found that the papers were more off-white/cream than white so i inked the doily to try to match....but i am not sure if it now just looks like it has been dropped on the floor and got dirty!

Both my boys just love pandas, probably totally influenced by my love of pandas! They have several of them each, and one day during the holidays it was decided that we should hold a panda party for them! I love that the boys have the same coloured tops on too...must have known i would be taking photos that day! Also i love this photo as its so hard to get a decent photo of both my boys together and smiling and not messing around or climbing on each other!

First Art Journal Page

Last night i tried art journalling for the very first time.....it was so much fun to get messy and not worry about what the end result might look like. I think i will enjoy this 'new' hobby! For those who know about these thnigs....you can probably tell its heavily influenced by Donna Downey. I hope that in time i will find my own style. At the moment i have a lot to learn about how different mediums and materials react to each other and so much more....but thats half the fun.....so my first page is all about never being afraid to try!

Supplies i used:-
Journal, White Acrylic Gesso, Aquatones, Acrylic paints, Versamark Ink, Distress Ink, Silver embossing powder, Foam alpha stamps, leaf stamp, fine dotty stamp, Cosmic Shimmer Mist, brushes, black pens, white pen and water.

Here is my latest creation...a Layout using Shimelles sketch of the week.

I am really pleased with how it turned out as i managed to incoperate all the things i wanted to into the page. Firstly i had in my head that i wanted to use a bright turquoisey blue colour, simply because i am loving that colour at the moment. I also wanted to scrap with some of the photos taken whilst on our holiday this year, as that pile is still too big! I also used my new notepad border punch and several items of very old stash (the brads and clear bubble sticker) as well as managing to make up the title using one of my favourite alphas, of which i barely have any letters left....in fact i had to create the letter P by cutting up an R!

Then lastly i attempted to use paint on the layout...something i am wanting to try a lot more of as i am really inspired by Emy Buxton and by all the youtube videos on art journalling i have been watching recently. The paint was some metallic blue that i had bought to make christmas presents with last year...it matched perfectly (though doesnt photograph as well!)...which is just as well as it is the only pot of acrylic paint i own (not counted a few small tubes of very old acrylic pain - which is what i will be using on future LOs for the moment!)

8x8 Layouts

Here are 2 more of the simple 8x8 LOs that i made recently. I still find them a great way to use up scraps and to get my ever growing pile of photos scrapped quickly. But i think if i had not got an 8x8 album that needs filling i woudl probably stick to 12x12's. There just isnt enough space to do that much to them when i want to include a 6x4 photo. I did these last month, and now looking back at them i am not really happy with them at all.

Waterfall

Here is a very simple 8x8 LO. The title may not be obvious from the photo, but on the other side of the climbing frame that my boys are sat on is a blue side like a waterfall...hence we call the climbing frame their 'waterfall'. I simply drew a few swirls on white cardstock and used gluedots to stick blue and green buttons to it. I matted the photo in blue and used some blue alpha stickers for the title.

Here is a 12x12 LO that i did at my crop last weekend. It is based on a class by Daphfnie from the ScrapFactor 2011 over on UKS, although again it has ended up looking nothing like the original. I made the flowers out of patterned paper and buttons. The LO features my little one at Thomas Land....i just had to get a photo of him with Toby the tram. I finished the LO off by adding black outline doodle lines, buttons, gems and some thomas the tank labels.

Brotherly Love

Here is a LO that i made at my crop today. I based it on a LO over on the two peas website, although i think you will agree it has turned out very different! I used a neutral coloured ledge style background paper from Basic Grey. I used a compass to draw a circle about 1inch in from the edge of the paper in pencil. I used my circle punch to create a mask in vellum, and then went around the pencilled circle using this mask to create circular stamped images in grey ink. I attached a button to the middle of each stamped image. I used the colours that are in the boys t-shirts. I then added gems between the buttons in matching colours and rubbed out the pencil line.

I double matted my photo in neutral colours and stuck it in the middle of the background paper. Next i drew another circle on the background paper, this time about 7 inches in diameter and then hand stitched around it changing the embroidry threads to match the colours of the larger circle. I punched small circles out of coloured card and used little circular letter stamps to create the title and date, again matching in the colours to the circle. I finished the LO by drawing some doodled lines around the edge of the LO, yet again matching the colours.

Whilst at the crop i was annoyed to find i didnt have any orange gems....but i found a clever way to overcome this that i am really pleased with....i used clear/colourless gems instead, and when i got home i coloured over the top of them with a sharpie pen (which i didnt have at the crop) and they now are orange to match in with all the other things in that area of the LO!

Take a walk along the pier

These photos were taken back in the winter one saturday by my husband whilst i was at a crop. It was Tobys first time walking along the victorian pier in the town where we live. Actually, he hadnt long learnt how to walk. I decolourised the photos so that only my little one remained in colour. I love the perspective the photos have. I used some scraps of cosmo cricket on this LO as i thought the muted colours and the woodgrain type pattern fitted well. It is inspired from Shimelle Laines 'Love 6x4' class feb 2011 over on teh Two Peas website. Although i have mountains of scraps, papers and even alphas, i am running low on embellishments (apart from the usual flowers & buttons etc) so i tried to make my own by using punches to make negative bubble type shapes.

I added some little gems on the page, and thought it would be a fun idea to place one in each of the piers lights. The LO is now on display in my living room (i have a stand that i use to hold my latest creation) and they really catch the light and twinkle!

A simple 8x8 LO again using up more scraps. I couldnt find the right sort of letters for the 'only' wording so had a go at writing my own and am pleased with the results. I have had this photo of my little one for quite a while but couldnt really think of a title for it.

Here is a LO that i made tonight, following a tutorial on YouTuby by ShimelleLaine. Apart from the one sheet of patterned paper and the background cardstock it used up more of my scraps as well as some stickers by Rhonna Farrer that i have had for ages. I seldom use pinks in my LO, having two little boys, but the patterned paper allowed me to add some touches of pink into this LO, whilst the dominating blues along with greens kept it masculine. As the journalling explains the photos were taken last year, when Toby has just turned one and my boys started to play together properly for the first time.

Love Icecream

Both my boys love ice cream...and if its chocolate so much the better! The main difference is that whilst George took a few years to become accustomed to the coldness and dicover his love for it, Toby was happy to eat it from his very first taste. This is a simple 8x8 LO. The stitching is simply doodled on. I love how the felt embellishment fits the theme of the page so well.

Another quick 8x8 LO to use up yet more basic grey scraps. I used a chipboard alphabet as a stencil to cut out the title word 'book' and used black pen to doodle in some details to add a little more interest to the page. The photo is of my youngest son taken about a year ago, he just loves books!

Here is a fairly simple LO that was made to use up some of my basic grey scraps. I found two unused albums that were 8x8, i havent scrapped in this size before but am finding that not only is it easier to use up scraps on smaller layouts, but also they are much quicker to produce as they have less space to be filled. I was pleased with the way the handcut tree and clouds turned out. Using thin broken black lines to make certain elements stand out is one of my favourite things to do at the moment.

The photo was taken on a local field earlier in the year not long after Toby had learnt to walk. He really enjoyed his new found freedom in being able to 'run' about where ever he wanted to go rather than being constrained in the pushchair.

Resurrection

My blog lives again!! It may have been 2 years since my last post....but i have decided that i want to get back into blogging and havea crafty blog....so couldnt see a reason to not just resurrect my old one rather than recreate a new one. I am currently going through a phase of trying to use up all my old stash and my scraps...you know the stuff that has sat in the cupboard for year after year, but really cant bare to get rid of as its still pretty or just might find a home on a LO that would be perfect. I thought i would share with you a LO i made a few months ago at my local crop as part of a challenge...

...of course my blog is still very much a 'work in progess' (as is our house...but thats a whole other story!) and i hope to improve on both the contents and the design in the coming weeks.
